Fire Safe Cigarette Bill Sent to Governor
Arkansas will be come the 40th state to pass legislation to require all cigarettes sold in Arkansas be fire safe cigarettes (reduced ignition propensity). What does this mean - it will requires the cigarettes be made of special paper that will extinguish itself if not puff in a certain length of time.
The bill, by Representative Steve Harrelson, passed both the House and Senate and now is in the Governors office for his approval.
HB1402 - Cigarette Fire Safety Act Creates the Arkansas cigarette fire safety standard act; concerning the reduced ignition propensity standards for cigarettes sold in the state of Arkansas; creates the cigarette fire safety standard fund.
This is one more positive step in tobacco control for the state of Arkansas.
