On Saturday, May 31, some 200 central Arkansas residents participated in CPR Across Arkansas, learning lifesaving bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The event was held at War Memorial Stadium and training was conducted on the field, utilizing the Jumbotron.
The training was part of the City Goes Red Initiative, a partnership between Arkansas Heart Hospital and the American Heart Association. Over 40 CPR instructors gave of their time and energy to conduct the training free of charge.
Health screenings were provided and each participating family received a free Family and Friends CPR Anytime Kit. Compression-to-ventilation ratio and administering CPR after each shock with an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) are some of the new rules being taught by the American Heart Association.
